Due Date Nov 24, 2009 05:43 AM

The Office of Proposal Development and the Office of Undergraduate Research will jointly offer a workshop for faculty interested in applying to NSF for Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site and Supplement grants on Tuesday, May 26th from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. in the Jack Williams Administration Bldg Room 310.  REU site grants allow departments or programs to host undergraduates from across the nation for summer research experiences and can also provide valuable infrastructure for department faculty applying for NSF research grants in meeting "broader impacts" requirements.  REU supplements are available to PIs with current NSF research grants to enable undergraduate research experiences for one or two undergraduates.

This seminar, presented by Lucy Deckard (Office of Proposal Development) and Bob Webb (Associate Dean for Undergraduate Research and Interim Dean of Graduate Studies), will include:
• A discussion of NSF REU program requirements and guidelines
• Characteristics of successful REU proposals
• Infrastructure available through the Office of Undergraduate Research to support REU sites and supplements.
• Successful PIs will discuss their experiences, and examples of successful proposals will also be provided.
For more information on the program guideline, see NSF's REU webpage  (http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=5517&org=NSF&from=fund)  - the new solicitation has not yet been issued.

The due date for all REU Site proposals (except for those to the Antarctic Program) is typically in mid-August.
To register for this free seminar, please send an e-mail to OPD (OPD@tamu.edu) with the subject line "REU" and include your name and department in the body of the e-mail.
