The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has issued a Request for Applications (attached) for the upcoming competition under the Minority Health Research and Education Grant Program. Eligible Grantees: Public and independent accredited general academic and health-related institutions, and Centers for Teaching Education. Two-year colleges and universities, including junior and community colleges, state colleges and technical colleges, are not eligible to submit a grant application but may be compensated partners to a general academic or health-related institution.
Focus of 2010 Competition: Academic models developed at the state, regional, or local level that enable African Americans and Hispanic students to graduate in greater numbers from degree programs leading to initial licensure as registered nurses, and or licensure/certification as allied health professionals. Funded projects will establish or expand one or more educational pipelines to increase the number of students progressing in these programs from: high school to community college/university; and/or community college to university.
Grant Period: From June 1, 2010 to May 31, 2012. Grant institutions that show success in project outcomes are eligible to apply for one-year and/or two-year grant extensions.
Grant awards: Range: $30,000 - $675,000. Avg.: $260,000
Competition Schedule:
November 6, 2009 Eligible institutions shall notify Board staff of their intent to apply.
January 11, 2010 Applications are due
April 29, 2010 Board considers grant awards
June 1, 2010 Grants begin
