A very short presentation will cover the basics of how NSF is organized, and how to determine which directorate and program to apply to. Then, a panel of faculty who have been successful at winning funding from NSF, have been program officers at NSF and/or have been reviewers at NSF will then discuss lessons learned and answer questions. Discussion topics will be driven by participants, but are expected to include:
- What are reviewers looking for?
- How can a new researcher compete successfully for funding?
- What are some common mistakes that researchers make in their proposals?
- How can researchers position themselves to be more competitive at NSF?
In the last 20 minutes, we will divide into groups based on directorate in order to answer more specific, disciplinary-specific questions.
NSF Directorates are :
Biology (BIO)
Computer, Information Science and Engineering (CISE)
Education and Human Resources (EHR)
Engineering (ENG)
Geosciences (GEO)
Math and Physical Sciences (MPS)
Polar Research (OPP)
Social, Behavioral and Economics Sciences (SBE)
